Around Mandalay (Amarapura)

Bargaya Monastery

This monastery is located on the east side of road between Amarapura-Mandalay. The monastery's official title is Maha Way Yan Bontha Kyaung Taw Gyi, which literally means the Greatest Royal Monastery. The monastery is a representation of the Wayzayanta Palace, which is the highest level of heaven in Buddhism.

U Bein Bridge

U Bein Bridge, which crosses the Taung-tha-man Lake, is the longest teak bridge in the world. Although a bit rickety in some parts it has withstood the storms and floods of over one and half centuries, and is very popular with tourists.

Amarapura Kyauk Taw Gyi Pagoda

In 1847 King Bagan erected this pagoda, which is a reproduction of the Ananda Temple at Bagan. The Buddha's image in this pagoda is carved from a single block of marble.
