7 States in Myanmar


Kachin State
Myitkyina is the largest town in Kachin State. There are regular flights from Yangon and Mandalay to Myitkyina. Putao is the northernmost town in Myanmar and is surrounded by snow capped mountains and spectacular wilderness.

Kayah State
Loikaw is the capital of Kayah State and it is 881 km or about 19 hours drive from Yangon. There are daily express buses from Yangon.

Kayin State
Pha-an is the capital of Kayin State, located 315 km south of Yangon. There are several alternatives of travelling to Pha-an including an express lane highway and a rail service. The drive from Yangon to Pha-an is about 7 hours.

Chin State
Hakha is the capital of Chin State, and it is 1,008 km from Yangon. There are scheduled flights and daily express coaches available from Yangon to Hakha.

Mon State
Mawlamyine, a charming town formerly called Moulmein, is the capital of Mon State. It is situated at the mouth of the Thanlwin River (Salween River), and is easily accessible by road and rail from Yangon.

Rakhine State
Thandwe can also be accessed by car after crossing the Ayeyarwaddy River at Pyay. There are regular passenger boats and special speedboats, which take about 2 and half hours from Sittwe to Mrauk-U.

Shan State
The trip by car takes a few hours because of the steep and windy road over the Shan but the drive itself is interesting and well-worth taking. There is also a regular train service via Thazi Junction to Heho and Taunggyi and Inlay Lake.
