Inn Gyin (Shorea Tree Blossom)

This is a hardwood tree that has two varieties, the Common Shorea Tree and Sal Tree. The Common Shorea Tree bears big, red flowers while the Sal Tree bears small red flowers. Both flowers have a sweet fragrance. Its leaves fall in February and March after which new leaves sprout and the tree bears flowers. Another flower from the Cannon Ball Tree resembling the Shorea has a pungent smell.

Flowers from the Shorea Tree are seasonal flowers appearing in the month of Tabbaung. It originated in South America and was originally cultivated in Myanmar 's Taninthayi division. It is a very tall tree which sheds its large, elliptical leaves several times a year. The pinkish-red flowers grow directly from the trunk near the base of the crown and are strongly scented in the evening.
