Nya Hmwe Pan (Queen of the Night)

This is a bushy shrub. Its white flowers slowly open at nightfall and close again at sunrise. Although the flowers have a pungent, sweet fragrance at night they are odorless by day.

It is usually grown as an ornamental garden plant, and blooms throughout the year. It was cultivated from Central and South America and the West Indies . The leaves are simple and smooth edged, often with a rank smell when bruised, and the smallish flowers are tubular or unshaped, gathered in clusters at the branch tips. The flowers vary in color from white to green, yellow, red and dull purplish and some are night scented.
