Sabai (Jasmine)

There are many varieties of this bushy shrub including Common Jasmine, Wild Jasmine and Arabian Jasmine. It grows naturally but is cultivated commercially in Magway, Mandalay and Yangon . The small white fragrant flowers blossom during the rainy season and the cold season.

The flowers are often strung into garlands. Oil can be extracted from the flowers to make perfume. In China , dried jasmine is added to tea leaves to make a fragrant tea. It has elliptical, dark green leaves and very fragrant clusters of single or double flowers.
